Bamboo Window Blinds

If you are looking into purchasing bamboo shades for your windows, a few things might seem confusing.  Some of the shades will come in woods other than bamboo.  Not to worry, you aren’t getting ripped off.  The term bamboo window blinds refers to many kind of window covering made from a lightweight wood-like material.  This can be anything from bamboo, rattan, reed, all the way to faux wood.  They are woven together to create a beautiful textured look.  In addition to being beautiful, they are very affordable and require very little maintenance.

Part of the reason they are affordable is that the lightweight material can often be  fragile and not as durable as other window coverings.  While they come in a variety of styles it is almost impossible to find a style that doesn’t use a pull cord to operate them.  For these reasons it would be ill advised to use them in an area where children or pets could get to them, to are otherwise perfect for home decorating.  They also allow some degree of light to filter in, even when closed.  Some styles will provide an option for a fabric liner to provide further insulation and less light, so this may be a good solution for you.

Bamboo window blinds come in a variety of styles but one of the most popular is the roll up style.  These do not fold up on themselves and, like the name indicates they roll.  The roman style is also popular and they lift in folds which creates a pleated look when they are open.   This style works better with a liner since it won’t show when the blinds are open.  An often overlooked way to use bamboo window blinds is in outdoor decorated.  They are a perfect way to provide shade on a patio or sunroom.   Since they are so lightweight, they can be hung from any number of places without causing any damage.  So whether you just want some extra shade or a nice decorating option, this could be a great option for you.

When looking into bamboo shades, be sure to find a manufacturer that offers a warranty.  This is especially important with woven wood shades.  These are more likely to be defective and are harder to replace so a warranty is a good thing to have.  If you are buying for more than one window in the same room look for similar colors.  Since you are working with natural materials there will be some slight variance in color, but certain woods will have less variance than other so don’t be afraid to shop around.
